A Small Moment of Calm

A Small Moment of Calm

Dear Beautiful Community,

I was thinking about April the other morning while the café was still quiet.

It’s a funny month, isn’t it? It begins with April Fool’s Day, a little reminder not to take life too seriously. Then before we know it we’re celebrating Easter, reflecting during World Health Day, appreciating the people who grow up beside us on Siblings Day, honoring different ways of thinking during Neurodiversity Celebration Month, and finishing strong with Earth Day.

April carries a lot in its pockets. Humor. Renewal. Growth. Care.

When we started working on this month’s Sip With Purpose, those themes kept circling back in our conversations behind the bar.

We wanted a drink that felt like a breath between busy moments. Something calm. Something gentle enough to slow you down for a second, even on a day that feels full.

Honey came to mind first. There’s a warmth to it that feels comforting, almost grounding. Then someone suggested lavender. Soft, floral, just a little unexpected. When the two met with espresso, everything softened in the best way.

The Honey Lavender Latte felt like April. Light but steady. Sweet without trying too hard.

And as always, once the drink felt right, we asked ourselves the question that matters most to us: who should this month support?

That question led us to Communities In Schools of Nevada.

Learning about their work reminded us that growth does not happen in isolation. Students succeed when they are supported, when someone notices what they need and helps remove the barriers standing in their way.

Communities In Schools does exactly that. They work directly inside schools across Nevada, connecting students and families with resources, guidance, and encouragement so young people can stay in school and build a future that feels possible.

Behind the scenes, that mission felt perfectly aligned with everything April represents. Growth. Care. Health. Support systems that help people thrive.

So this month, the Honey Lavender Latte became our quiet way of honoring that spirit.

Sweet honey. Soft lavender. A calm little moment that contributes to something much bigger.

And while April may begin with a joke, the work happening in our schools and communities is no joke at all. It’s meaningful, hopeful, and worth showing up for.

Thank you for being part of it with us.

With care,
Mother Roast
