In 2004, a group of 464 female coffee producers in Peru united to change the coffee growing dynamic and take a step toward empowerment, by separating their coffee from the men’s coffee, to gain a higher stake in their hard work. These women created their own product and their own source of income. Their cooperative, the CECANOR cooperative, partnered with the U.S. based importer Organic Products Trading Company (OPTCO) to form the Cafe Femenino foundation. Through this program, they developed a new market for women-produced coffee, which has helped to bring many women coffee farmers out of poverty to better benefit their home communities.

This Peruvian coffee, from the cooperative which started it all, showcases the classic flavor of northern Peruvian coffees. Coffees from the north of Peru, from growing regions such as Amazonas, Cajamarca, Piura, and Lambayeque, typically offer a full body, a nut and chocolate flavor, and a mild but pleasant acidity. This coffee is quite easy to drink. It offers a smooth milk chocolate flavor, a medium body, a white-grape-like acidity, and a clean finish.

  • Region: CECANOR Co-op, Lambayeque
  • Process: Fully washed and sun-dried
  • Elevation: 1000-2050 MASL
  • Variety: Typica, Catimor, Bourbon, Villa Sarchi
  • Flavor Notes: Chocolate, Caramel, Mild Acidity
  • Roast Level: Medium

So Good!

As someone who craves a quality cup of coffee at home, Mothership Coffee's Peru Penachi subscription has been a game-changer. It's like having a personal barista deliver magic to my doorstep every month!

The Peru Penachi is more than just delicious coffee (though let's be honest, that's a big part of it!). It's a comforting ritual. The rich, smooth taste of the Peruvian beans instantly brightens my mornings. And the little touches Mothership adds – the notes, the pretty packaging, surprise stickers from time to time – make it feel special.

No more scrambling to the store when I run out of beans. Mothership takes care of everything. It's honestly such a relief not to have to think about it. Just knowing I have a fresh bag waiting for me each month is a tiny stress reliever in my busy life.

If you're looking for a way to elevate your home coffee experience, this is it!

This is outrageously good coffee. I am subscribed for monthly delivery because it's the best coffee I've yet to find. Highly recommend to anyone who appreciates excellent coffee.
